Who writes Fern & Feline

Three editors, each owning a section. The hosting how-to and table-setting work goes to one. The glassware and home-bar work to another. Holidays gets its own beat. Different specialties, one consistent voice.

Plant Safety Editor

Lena Castillo

Covers: Cat-Safe Plants, Dog-Safe Plants, Toxic Plants & Emergency Response

Lena writes the safety side of Fern & Feline: which plants are safe for cats and dogs, which ones aren't, and what to do in the first 30 minutes if your pet ate something they shouldn't have. She started this work after her own cat chewed on a lily and the panicked 3am Google search produced six contradictory answers. She works with the ASPCA toxic-plants database, Pet Poison Helpline references, and peer-reviewed veterinary sources, and cites them in every article. She is not a veterinarian; for emergencies, always call your vet or Pet Poison Helpline (888-426-4435).

Plant Care Editor

Claire Bennett

Covers: Single-Plant Guides, Pet-Safe Alternatives, Living with Pets & Plants

Claire writes the care and lifestyle side of Fern & Feline: deep guides to the houseplants people actually own (monstera, pothos, snake plant, spider plant, philodendron), pet-safe alternatives to the plants that aren't, and the placement strategies that let you have a thriving plant collection without giving up your cat's curiosity. She has 40+ houseplants in a one-bedroom apartment with two cats, which is the test bed for everything she writes.
